It is during this time that the prophet Nathan informs David that his kingdom will last forever. While descendants of David did sit on the throne in Jerusalem for almost 500 years, his dynasty was not truly forever.<\/p>\n So, was Nathan wrong? Not if we see through spiritual eyes. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is often called \u201cThe Son of David.\u201d That was no idle nickname; the gospel writers went to great pains to establish that Jesus was descended from David. That\u2019s because they believed he was \u201cThe Christ,\u201d which is from the Greek \u201cChristos,\u201d which means \u201cthe anointed one.\u201d The word for \u201canointed one\u201d in Hebrew is the word from which we get \u201cMessiah.\u201d All Israel\u2019s kings were anointed with olive oil as a symbol of God\u2019s Spirit anointing them; in a sense they were all messiahs.<\/p>\n But Jesus is called \u201cTHE Messiah\u201d by those who believe in him.
